About Us
The National Board for Certification in the Orthopedic Specialties, Inc. (NBCOS) was incorporated in 2019 as a not-for-profit credentialing agency to provide a certification program for several specialties that navigate across the orthopedic profession. The NBCOS has established the standards of practice for Orthopedic Physician Extenders (OPE-C®), Registered Orthopedic Technologists (ROT), Orthopedic Allied Professionals (OAP-C) and the continuing education requirements associated for maintaining the aforementioned credentials, respectively. The NBCOS will be establishing the framework to approach state regulatory agencies to initiate/engage the necessary provisions for regulatory standards and licensure.
NBCOS Vision:
The NBCOS will fulfill its mission by:
• Supporting career advancement through a validated certification process focused on office-based orthopedic clinical procedures;
• Endorsing high standards of professional clinical competency by supporting its membership with criteria and means for continuing education;
• Providing evidence-based research that is responsive to the musculoskeletal demands of the orthopedic population;
• Being the primary advocate in the orthopedic specialty arena for its legislative advancement towards professional licensure;
• Exploring the opportunity to further develop professional opportunities for employment diversification for its credentialed members
• Advocating the demand for the highest clinical standards, ethical decision-making and professionalism of its credentialed members.
